The rivalry between former President Donald Trump and United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain heats up following the UAW’s endorsement of President Joe Biden. Trump criticized the UAW in a forthcoming Fox News interview, labeling the union a “hopeless case” and predicting dire outcomes for the auto industry under Biden’s presidency.
Trump’s remarks escalate the tension that began with a scathing Truth Social post where he branded Fain a “dope.” This was in retaliation to Fain’s comments on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” where Fain commended Biden’s advocacy for American workers and criticized Trump’s allegiance to the wealthy.
The dispute unfolds as both Biden and Trump vie for support in Michigan, a crucial state with a significant auto worker population. Despite Trump’s 2016 victory in Michigan, Biden secured the state in the 2020 election.
Shifting focus, Trump engaged with the Teamsters Union, holding a roundtable with its leaders in Washington, D.C. Teamsters President Sean O’Brien remarked on the productive nature of the discussion, though he noted the union is far from making an endorsement decision.
Fain, speaking on CNN’s “The Source,” dismissed the possibility of any union backing Trump, questioning the rationale behind engaging with candidates like Trump, known for his catchphrase, “You’re fired.
