Kevin McCarthy Responds to Damning Trump Indictment With Lengthy Statement on Hunter Biden
In response to the recent indictment of former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy deflected by tweeting about Hunter Biden, affirming that House Republicans will “continue to reveal the truth about Biden Inc.”
The indictment of Trump, the Republican Party’s leading contender for the 2024 nomination, on four felony charges related to his actions after the 2020 election, led McCarthy and many other prominent Republicans to consolidate their support around the former president.
In his tweet, McCarthy listed recent revelations about Hunter Biden, including financial links to China and repeated contact with his business associates, both of which counter President Biden’s previous claims. He also pointed out an alleged attempt by Biden’s Department of Justice to secretly provide Hunter with broad immunity, calling it an “unprecedented sweetheart deal.”
McCarthy argued that the indictment of Trump by the DOJ was a distraction tactic due to Trump’s standing as Biden’s main political adversary, according to a recent poll. McCarthy pledged that House Republicans would continue to probe into the dealings of the Biden family and the alleged “two-tiered system of justice.”
The official House Judiciary Committee account echoed this sentiment, tweeting, “Don’t let Joe Biden’s DOJ distract you from this!” while retweeting a post from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Jordan tweeted about a 2014 dinner attended by then-Vice President Biden, Hunter, and their associates, including Russian oligarch Elena Baturina, who he noted is curiously absent from the Biden administration’s public sanctions list for Russian oligarchs.
Other Republicans rallying behind Trump included Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
However, former Vice President Mike Pence, whose life was threatened during the Jan 6 riot, took a different stance. His campaign issued a statement saying, “Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States…Our country is more important than one man. Our Constitution is more important than any one man’s career.”
