A man in Indianapolis is being hailed as a hero after he discovered two babies abandoned in a freezing ditch. Robert Deane, who was collecting packages outside his home on the southeast side of the city, spotted two car seats left in a ditch. Upon investigating, he found two baby girls, aged 4 and 5 months, abandoned in 27-degree weather.

Indianapolis police later confirmed that the girls had been kidnapped earlier in a stolen vehicle. The exact duration of time the babies had been exposed to the freezing temperatures is unclear, but authorities expressed relief that Deane found them when he did. Indianapolis police spokesman William Young said, “It’s cold out here.

Who knows what could have happened if this particular individual was not able to come outside? It’s extremely cold, and we’re still in our early stages of trying to figure out who was responsible for this.” Young praised Deane for his quick actions, stating, “He did what any good person would do. He got those infants to the shelter, told IndyStar.

This is an outcome that we wanted. I can’t thank that good Samaritan enough.” As of now, police have not identified or apprehended a suspect, but investigating the incident remains their top priority. This heart-wrenching case comes on the heels of another tragic event in Los Angeles, where a newborn baby was found dead after being thrown from a fourth-floor window on Skid Row.

Police say the baby boy was discovered in an alley across from the 500 block of San Pedro Street in downtown Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday. A passerby attempted CPR on the baby while waiting for emergency responders, but the newborn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities suspect the baby may have been thrown from a fourth-floor bathroom window after the mother gave birth. At the same time, a woman was hospitalized for bleeding and later detained by police, though she was released pending further investigation.
