Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera Reunite Amid ‘Scream’ Series Shake-Up
Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera recently reunited with fellow cast members of the ‘Scream’ franchise at the 17th Annual Evening Before Gala hosted by MPTF. The gathering brought together the original “Core 4” of the series, which includes Mason Gooding and Jasmine Savoy Brown, both of whom joined the franchise in ‘Scream V’ and ‘Scream VI’.
This reunion follows a series of significant events within the ‘Scream’ franchise. Melissa Barrera, who played a pivotal role in the series, was released from ‘Scream VII’ due to a controversial social media post about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Spyglass Media, the production company behind the film, labeled her comments as antisemitic and stated their zero-tolerance policy towards such sentiments.
Barrera defended her stance on social media, emphasizing her intention to use her platform to advocate for human rights and freedom, and expressed her commitment to speaking out for those in need.
Jenna Ortega, who played Barrera’s sister in the films, also exited ‘Scream 7‘, citing scheduling conflicts with her Netflix series ‘Wednesday’. Additionally, Christopher Landon, the director of the upcoming installment, announced his departure from the project amidst the controversy, describing the experience as a dream job that turned into a nightmare.
Landon’s exit and his subsequent statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, mark another twist in the ongoing developments within the ‘Scream’ franchise.
