Steve Harvey Calls Out T.J. Holmes When Reflecting On Miss Universe Fiasco, Pinpoints Where He Went Wrong: ‘I’m gonna go back out here and fix it
Steve Harvey, the host of Family Feud, is known for his fun reactions to some of the participants’ stupidest answers, which often cause him to shout and throw his card.
Harvey, on the other hand, is not without his own on-screen gaffes, the most known of which happened in the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant, when Harvey declared the wrong winner.
Looking back on the incident eight years later, Harvey highlighted exactly what he did wrong that night, and he singled out T.J. Holmes for his role in the reaction against him.
Steve Harvey Admits One Mistake In Miss Universe Snafu
On Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Steve Harvey didn’t hold back when discussing the Miss Universe saga, defending his actions on the night Miss Colombia was mistakenly named the pageant winner, rather than Miss Philippines.
Harvey insisted that he read what was on his card and the teleprompter, as well as the directions in his earpiece. He made a mistake after that, he claimed when he chose to try to fix the error on live TV.
When he was informed of the error, he explained:
I said, ‘All right, I’m gonna go back out here and fix it.’ The dude said, ‘Where are you going?’ I said, ‘I’m gonna go out here and fix it.’ He said, ‘No, we’ll fix it tomorrow in the newspaper.’ [I said] ‘Fuck that, we live, I’m gonna go fix this shit now.’ Stupidest shit I ever did. I should’ve let them fix it in the newspaper.
My stupid ass walked right out there and took the full hit, man. I took it dead in the teeth like it was all my fault, and it wasn’t.
If Steve Harvey had not opted to correct the problem at that time, he would not have been the face of the dispute. Instead, he returned to the stage and fell on the sword.
Listen, folks, let me just take control of this. This is exactly what’s on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake, but the right thing… the first runner-up is Colombia.
Despite reports at the time that he had not rehearsed that portion of the show, Steve Harvey went on to explain that they had rehearsed all week reading the second runner-up and then announcing the winner.
However, Harvey claims that one of the staffers disagreed with the decision not to announce the first runner-up and wrote that contestant’s name on the card, which caused the error.
