Sarah Hyland Issued a Restraining Order Against Matt Prokop When They Were Dating

Matt Prokop, who was romantically involved with Sarah Hyland from 2008 to 2014, has recently been arrested for allegedly assaulting his current girlfriend. This incident brings back chilling memories of the accusations Hyland once made against him during their tumultuous relationship.
The recent events unfolded when Victoria Police Department received a distress call on Saturday. Prokop’s current girlfriend reportedly confided in someone that the 33-year-old actor had assaulted her. By the time first responders arrived, the couple had left the scene. However, an hour later, authorities were called to another domestic disturbance involving the same couple at a different location in Victoria.
Prokop was subsequently arrested and booked into Victoria County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and resisting arrest. He has since bonded out on these charges.
This is not the first time Prokop has faced serious allegations of partner abuse. The actor, known for his role in High School Musical 3, was previously accused of abusive behavior by his former girlfriend and Disney co-star, Sarah Hyland. The pair had met at an audition for High School Musical 3: Senior Year and later starred together in the 2011 film Geek Charming.
In September 2014, Hyland, now also 33, filed for a temporary restraining order against Prokop, citing alarming details of their relationship. The Modern Family actress alleged that Prokop had choked her and threatened her life, leading her to fear for her safety.
In her statement to authorities, Hyland recounted a harrowing incident: “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.” This led to a court order mandating Prokop to stay at least 100 yards away from Hyland and her dog.
Since their separation, Hyland has moved on from the traumatic experiences with Prokop. She found love again with Wells Adams, a bartender known from Bachelor in Paradise. The couple tied the knot in August 2022, marking a new chapter in Hyland’s life, far removed from the shadows of her past with Prokop.
As the new allegations against Prokop surface, they cast a disturbing light on his history of abusive behavior. The recent charges not only highlight the ongoing issue of domestic violence but also underscore the importance of believing and supporting survivors like Hyland, who bravely spoke out about her ordeal nearly a decade ago.
