Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie Xo, have found a simple yet powerful way to keep their marriage strong: they never spend more than 14 days apart, no matter how hectic life gets. In an interview with People magazine published on November 20, the 39-year-old country star opened up about the secret to their lasting love.
“Fourteen days has been our rule kind of from the beginning,” said Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord. The couple, who tied the knot in 2016, extended this rule to their 16-year-old daughter, Bailee. “We actually just implemented that same rule with our 16-year-old,” he explained. “We realized we were going months without seeing her, and I was like, ‘This just needs to be family.’”
Bunnie, 44, has been a steadfast partner in Jelly Roll’s life since they met at one of his shows in 2015. Though she was in a relationship at the time, the two remained friends before eventually falling in love. Their love story led to an onstage proposal and an impromptu wedding the same night.
Last year, the couple renewed their vows at the same Las Vegas chapel where they were first married, celebrating their enduring bond. Jelly Roll describes Bunnie as his rock. “She’s the person you show up to when the chips are down,” he said. On Instagram, he has often praised her devotion to their blended family, which includes Bailee and their 8-year-old son, Noah.
In one heartfelt post, he called her “a special kind of woman” for the love and support she’s shown their children. “My world shrunk when I focused on one woman,” Jelly Roll told People. “Everything going right for me is because I’m grounded in my family.”
