Britney Spears Reveals Why She Moved to Mexico: ‘The Paparazzi Have Always Been Incredibly Cruel to Me’

Britney Spears has opened up about her decision to relocate to Mexico, explaining that it was a move to escape the “cruel” scrutiny of paparazzi. In a video shared with her followers, the 43-year-old pop star expressed her frustration with how the paparazzi have portrayed her in the media.
“It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing like a white Jason mask, and it doesn’t even look like me,” Spears said, referring to how the media has depicted her in an unflattering light.
She went on to add, “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures and the way they’ve illustrated me to be in some of it. I know I’m not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico.”
Spears’ candid comments reflect her ongoing struggles with the intense media attention she has faced over the years. In addition to her remarks about paparazzi, Spears also took to social media to share a lighthearted birthday message after turning 43 on Monday.
In the video, she jokingly said, “I’m turning five,” adding that she “had to go to Kindergarten tomorrow.” In other news, Spears’ divorce from Sam Asghari was finalized on Monday, marking the end of their marriage after more than a year of being together.
Meanwhile, Spears celebrated the acquisition of the rights to her best-selling memoir, The Woman in Me, by Universal. The memoir, published on October 24, 2023, has sold 2.5 million copies in the United States alone. Michelle Williams narrated the audiobook, which became the best-selling audiobook on Spotify in 2023 and the fastest-selling audiobook in Simon & Schuster’s history.
Bpears expressed her excitement on social media, writing, “I’m excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt,” referring to the producer of her upcoming film adaptation.
