“This Is Appalling and Extremely Racist”: Marjorie Taylor Greene Rebukes Trump Ally Laura Loomer
Firebrand Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, often accused of making controversial and racist remarks herself, took a surprising stand on Wednesday by publicly condemning far-right political activist Laura Loomer, a known Trump ally, for her “appalling and extremely racist” comments.
Greene took to the social media platform X to express her outrage over Loomer’s racially charged attack on Vice President Kamala Harris. On September 8, Loomer had reshared a post by Harris, in which the Vice President reflected on her family’s commitment to public service and social justice. Harris recalled how her grandfather inspired her to fight for equality, while her grandmother championed women’s access to birth control in India.
Loomer responded to Harris’s post with a racially insensitive remark: “If @KamalaHarris wins, the White House will smell like curry & White House speeches will be facilitated via a call center and the American people will only be able to convey their feedback through a customer satisfaction survey at the end of the call that nobody will understand.”
Outraged by Loomer’s post, Greene fired back on Wednesday evening. “This is appalling and extremely racist. It does not represent who we are as Republicans or MAGA,” Greene wrote, distancing herself and the broader MAGA movement from Loomer’s rhetoric. She added, “This does not represent President Trump.”
Greene went further, calling for accountability: “This type of behavior should not be tolerated ever. @LauraLoomer should take this down.” This public rebuke is not the first time Greene has clashed with Loomer. In April 2023, Greene labeled Loomer “mentally unstable and a documented liar,” warning others not to trust or do business with her. “Liars are toxic and poisonous to everything they touch,” Greene wrote at the time.
Loomer, a failed Congressional candidate with a history of espousing white nationalist and anti-Muslim views, has remained a polarizing figure in right-wing circles. She was notably aboard Trump’s plane just hours before the debate between Trump and Vice President Harris earlier this week, further entangling her with the Trump camp.
Greene’s condemnation comes at a time when she herself has faced numerous accusations of racism. In June 2020, Politico uncovered videos in which Greene made Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, and racist remarks, including claims that Muslims do not belong in government and that black people “are held slaves to the Democratic Party.” She also labeled Democratic Jewish megadonor George Soros a Nazi.= While Greene’s latest rebuke of Loomer may seem uncharacteristic, it highlights the ongoing tensions within the MAGA movement over who represents its values and ideals.
