Legal Action Looms for Prince Andrew as Anti-Monarchy Group Files Fresh Complaint with Police
A UK anti-monarchy group has submitted a new complaint to London police against Prince Andrew following the release of explosive US court documents. The documents allege the Duke’s involvement in inappropriate conduct with a woman connected to Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, who recently attended a Christmas Day church service with other members of the royal family, finds himself under renewed scrutiny after shocking revelations emerged in unsealed documents related to his association with Virginia Giuffre.
Republic, the anti-monarchy group advocating for an elected British head of state, issued a statement saying, “We’ve just reported Andrew to the police.”
This development follows a New York judge’s decision to unseal the identities of individuals mentioned in the documents linked to the disgraced US financier Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex crimes.
In the unsealed files, the younger brother of King Charles III is accused of inappropriate behavior, which he vehemently denies. Prince Andrew had previously stepped back from frontline royal duties in late 2019 after public backlash following a BBC television interview where he defended his friendship with Epstein.
In February 2022, the Duke reached an out-of-court settlement in a US civil case brought by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged that the Prince sexually assaulted her when she was 17. Following this, the late Queen stripped Prince Andrew of his honorary military titles and patronages, effectively excluding him from royal life.
The Metropolitan Police had closed its review into Giuffre’s claims in the US civil action in October 2021, announcing that it would take “no further action.”
