Joy Behar Confused on ‘The View’ as Whoopi Goldberg Discusses Men’s Role in Abortion Debate
On a recent episode of “The View,” co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg had a different take on a conversation sparked by Britney Spears’ revelation. Spears shared that she became pregnant during her relationship with Justin Timberlake and later opted for an abortion.
According to Spears, while she wanted to keep the child, Timberlake felt they were not ready, given they were 19 and 20 years old, respectively. The discussion on “The View” revolved around how much influence a man should have on a woman’s reproductive choices.
Behar emphasized that it should be primarily the woman’s decision, stating the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy and motherhood rest largely on the woman. Goldberg, on the other hand, made a brief but impactful remark, suggesting that men should also bear some responsibility in the abortion discussion, given they contribute to conception.
Her comments seemed to hint at a broader perspective on male responsibility in the matter.
“You know, if they put as much onus on how men treat their own bodies — because the swimmers, we carry eggs. They carry the swimmers. I kind of feel like, they need to put the same onus on abortion for men as they do for women, and let’s see how deep it’s going to be, because if you tell a man, ‘No, you can’t take care of yourself,’ I wonder how many of them are going to listen,” she said.
Behar replied, “But we don’t tell them what to do with their prostate,” but Goldberg cut her off, telling her co-host, “No, no, you’re missing the point.”
Admittedly confused, Behar asked, “What is the point?”
Goldberg responded, “The point is if men cannot take care of themselves in the way that men do—” as Behar interrupted, “Wear a condom.”
While she was confident in her remark, it didn’t hit Goldberg, who quickly corrected her.
However, the segment concluded before Goldberg could elaborate further on her stance. The show went to a commercial break with Goldberg assuring she’d explain her viewpoint, leaving viewers and Behar in anticipation.
