Queen Elizabeth’s closest friend says Meghan Markle blasted for her misperception about royal family
Lady Glenconner, one of Queen Elizabeth’s maids of honor from her 1953 Coronation, recently commented on Meghan Markle’s expectations of royal life after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s notable exit from the Royal Family in 2020.
Having been close to the royals, both as a childhood friend of the Queen and a lady-in-waiting for Princess Margaret, 91-year-old Lady Glenconner offered insights into Meghan’s misconceptions.
Speaking on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast, she opined that Meghan might have anticipated a glamorous life, akin to “riding around in a golden coach,” unaware of the actual responsibilities and, at times, the tedium of being a senior royal, the Mirror reports.
Further, during a conversation with American politician John Kerry at the King’s Coronation, Lady Glenconner mentioned that many Americans sympathize with Prince Harry.
Adding another dimension to Meghan’s story, a 2014 blog post from her lifestyle blog, The Tig, was brought to light. Before her marriage to Prince Harry, Meghan, while working on the TV series Suits, ran this blog where she shared tips on various topics.
In one post, Meghan expressed her admiration for British culture and even renamed the famous Pimm’s Number One Cup to the TIG Cup, demonstrating her fondness for the UK long before her royal journey began.
