Jeff Bezos Shuts Down $600 Million Aspen Wedding Rumors: ‘This Whole Thing is Completely False’
Jeff Bezos has firmly rejected rumors of a lavish Christmas wedding with fiancée Lauren Sanchez. The Amazon founder, 60, responded to speculation about a $600 million wedding planned for December 28 in Aspen, which was first reported by The New York Post and based on an article from The Daily Mail.
The rumors gained traction after Bill Ackman, CEO of Pershing Square, shared the Post article, dismissing the story with the caption, “This is not credible. Unless you are buying each of your guests a house, you can’t spend this much money.” Bezos responded swiftly on Sunday, writing, “Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false—none of this is happening.”
The billionaire also took to X (formerly Twitter) to warn against believing everything reported in the media. “The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been,” he stated. “Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don’t be gullible.”
Bezos further criticized media outlets that circulated the story, adding, “Will be interesting to see if all the outlets that ‘covered’ and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen.”
Bezos and Sanchez, who started dating in January 2019, got engaged in May 2023. An insider described the couple as being “on cloud nine—so happy and madly in love,” with Sanchez’s engagement ring being “beyond stunning. And huge!” The couple’s relationship has been widely covered, with Sanchez sharing her excitement about wedding planning, including her Pinterest board for the event, which she discussed on the Today show.
While the extravagant wedding rumors were shut down, the couple is still looking forward to their upcoming nuptials. Bezos shares four children with his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Sanchez has a son, Nikko, with her ex Tony Gonzalez, and two children, Evan and Ella, with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell.
Despite the false wedding claims, Bezos’ response underscores the challenges of navigating media speculation, particularly when it comes to the private lives of public figures.
