Piers Morgan Praises Kamala Harris and Criticizes Trump After Debate, Signaling Rift with Former Friend

Piers Morgan, the often outspoken media personality, appears to have distanced himself from his former friend Donald Trump, as seen in a recent social media post. Following the U.S. election debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, Morgan took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise Harris and critique Trump. “Wow. Kamala Harris won that debate… comfortably,” Morgan wrote.
He went on to criticize Trump’s performance: “Trump was unusually flat and very repetitive. Harris was nervous to start but grew increasingly confident. He didn’t seem to know how to handle her. Big win for Kamala. Wasn’t expecting that.”
Morgan and Trump’s friendship dates back to their time working together on The Apprentice over a decade ago, but the relationship began to sour in 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, Morgan became an outspoken critic of Trump’s handling of the crisis, even going so far as to call Trump’s ideas for coronavirus treatments “bats*** crazy” and “shockingly senseless.” He warned that these “stupid” theories could endanger lives.
In an interview, Morgan reflected on their relationship: “I have always got on well with him. He is what he is, he’s an extraordinary and unique character, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The problem is, when America got really tested, that was always the question—what would he be like? And he turned out to be an utter disaster.”
A pivotal moment in their strained relationship came during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored when Trump stormed off the set after calling Morgan “dishonest” and a “fool.” Trump unfollowed Morgan on social media and labeled him “disloyal” and part of the “fake news media.”
Though there was a brief reconciliation after Trump reached out to Morgan to patch things up, tensions resurfaced. Morgan later recalled their last conversation, in which Trump expressed confidence in winning his election campaign. “He was exuding chilling confidence about what was happening. He really just believes he is going to win,” Morgan said, as reported by The Mirror.
During a recent appearance on the Americano podcast, Morgan reflected on whether Trump had changed since an alleged assassination attempt in July. He remarked, “He was exactly the same Donald Trump he’s always been. He hadn’t changed one iota,” according to The Spectator.
