Oprah Winfrey Reveals She Has Never Attended Therapy Despite Mental Health Struggles
Oprah Winfrey, the iconic talk show host, recently shared her unique approach to managing her mental health. During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on December 12, the 69-year-old revealed that she never sought traditional therapy, despite advocating for mental health care on her show.
Winfrey stated, “I had all my therapy on the show in front of everybody,” highlighting how she navigated personal growth and mental health discussions publicly at a time when therapy was a taboo subject on television, told Independent.
Winfrey’s decision to forgo personal therapy sessions didn’t diminish her influence in encouraging others to seek help. Drew Barrymore, the host and former Charlie’s Angels star, expressed how Winfrey’s openness had impacted her, especially during her challenging teenage years.
On a different note, Winfrey also spoke about her commitment to physical wellness. In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight at The Color Purple premiere in Los Angeles on December 6, she discussed her comprehensive fitness routine, including time on the treadmill, as part of her overall wellbeing strategy.
Winfrey’s dedication to fitness has been consistent over the years. In a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she detailed her regimen, which includes 20 minutes on an elliptical machine and 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill, with increasing incline intervals, followed by sit-ups.
Despite her rigorous exercise routine, Winfrey admitted to Today in 2020 that she doesn’t enjoy working out but sees it as essential for her health and wellbeing. Her candidness about both her mental and physical health challenges and strategies continues to inspire and influence her audience.
