Lara Trump Deflects on Trump’s Claim About Haitians Eating Pets: ‘It’s Not Up to Me to Decide That’
On Sunday, Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chair Lara Trump sidestepped questions from Fox News host Howard Kurtz about whether she accepted that former President Donald Trump’s claim about Haitians eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, was false.
During an interview on Fox News, Kurtz addressed the controversial remark, that Trump made during a recent debate on ABC News. The claim, which local officials have debunked, has stirred considerable attention. Kurtz pressed Lara Trump on the matter, asking, “Do you now accept, based on what local officials say, that this is untrue?”
Lara Trump deflected the question, responding, “Well, it’s not up to me to decide that.” She continued by emphasizing that the information came from Springfield residents, not the former president himself. “This information came directly from the people of Springfield. You know, no one at our campaign, Donald Trump, didn’t make this up himself.”
She further explained that concerns had been raised at a local city council meeting. “You heard from people at a city council meeting, I believe, that they were very concerned about what’s been going on,” she insisted, defending the former president’s comments, told Axios.
Lara Trump went on to criticize those questioning the validity of the claim, stating, “It’s a shame that people are trying to discredit the impact that illegal immigration in this country has had on towns like Springfield, Ohio.”
She then shifted the focus to broader issues, arguing that the real problem lies with current immigration policies. “There are real problems in this country right now, and it is as a direct result of the open border policies that Kamala Harris has presided over,” she said, pointing to the vice president’s role in the administration’s immigration stance.
Lara Trump concluded by suggesting that Vice President Harris should take responsibility for the situation. “She needs to answer those questions as well and tell people why you’ve allowed this,” she added. While the claim about Haitians eating pets has been debunked by local authorities, Lara Trump’s comments reflect an ongoing strategy to redirect attention toward immigration policy and away from the specifics of the false statement.
